Describe the bug / provide steps to reproduce it

Webview auto updates to version 153 causing terminal and lsp background disconnections after switching apps for few seconds, lsp fails to reconnect

Image

Uninstalling updates down to v140 resolves the issue, don't know how long that would last until it tries updating again, play store auto update setting was already disabled prior to this

Environment

App version 1.13.5
Android version 16
Webview version 153

It seems like the webview version 154 fixed things, so it should be fine now(It was not an acode issue). Try upgrading your webview.

Version 153 is the highest my webview could be updated to

You can try to install Beta or Dev Android System WebView versions from PlayStore.

    • Beta: 156
    • Dev: 157

Then you have to change the WebView provider from phone's developer options.

Settings > System > Developer Options > WebView Implementation.

Or open the app you installed and it might ask you to change the WebView provider, just confirm.

I installed Beta 156 ,but the issue still persists,I guess my only option is to continue with resetting updates on stable as I wait for a better webview update

Yeah I installed 157 (dev) and it didn't work, what I did is:

    • Uninstall Android System WebView updates
    • Disable Chrome (I use Firefox as browser)
    • Restricted background mobile data to PlayStore

This prevents WebView from updating and you don't keep on fighting it, it just stays in the default version your phone had when it was made (mine has 96)

I didn't disable chrome but i restricted background data, didn't work, play store still updated webview, checked the data usage for play store, it was measured as foreground data usage rather than background

Chrome forces WebView updates on some phones so I recommend you to disable it, you can use Firefox or Brave as default browser

Using Webview version 153 with chrome disabled and everything works, the issue was chrome all along

I thought that at first too but when I brought WebView to older version (96) and disabled chrome it fixed.

Note that lack of RAM would shut the whole app, not only the terminal/LSPs, and you would get the app restarted, like when you open it without having it running in background prior to the initialization.

Go to: Phone Settings > Apps > All Apps

There's three dots up-right (⋮), press it and press "Show System Apps", then look for "Android System WebView", go into its settings and there's another three dots (⋮) up-right, press it and press "Uninstall Updates", it'll restart the app to the version your phone had when it was first made.

I also recommend you to disable Chrome because it can force WebView updates

    16. Can you tell me how I can degrade my WebView to fix it

You sure it's not because of low memory? if it is your app would reload not just terminal and lsp , if it's not, just disable chrome you don't need to uninstall webview updates
