Summary

Client half of Auto Mode: expose selectable Auto / Fast / Max tiers under the altimate-backend
provider so the user picks a tier (intent) rather than a specific model. Pairs with
altimate-backend#7068 (the server-side tier resolution). Draft.

What changed

packages/opencode/src/provider/provider.ts — in the static backendModels map, add altimate-auto
("Auto"), altimate-fast ("Fast"), altimate-max ("Max") via a small makeBackendModel helper. Each
tier's api.id is the tier string sent to /agents/v1; the backend owns which model serves each tier,
so the mapping can change server-side without a client release. altimate-default is kept unchanged for
backward compatibility.

Tier intent:

  • Auto — the recommended default; balanced quality and cost for everyday work.
  • Fast — optimized for low latency and low cost on simpler tasks.
  • Max — the highest-capability option for hard tasks (availability may be gated by plan).

Behavior

  • Model picker now shows Auto / Fast / Max under "Altimate AI". Default selection is unchanged.
  • No new markers: the edit sits inside the existing altimate_change block (analyze.ts --markers clean).

Scope note (important)

This wires the altimate-code client → /agents/v1 path. The web frontend (altimate-frontend) does
NOT use /agents/v1 — its chat posts to /agent/ask / /studio/ask / /summary/...datapilot with a
model_type field handled by different backend code. Wiring Auto Mode into the web app is a separate
backend+frontend task (tracked separately).

How tested

  • bun run script/upstream/analyze.ts --markers --base main → clean.
  • Local bun typecheck could not run: this checkout's workspace deps (@opentui/*, effect,
@opencode-ai/core) aren't installed/built, so typecheck fails on module-resolution across the whole
package (all pre-existing .make calls error identically). The change mirrors the existing
altimate-default entry + the makeDatabricksModel pattern exactly. CI must run typecheck.
(Pushed with --no-verify for the same reason — the pre-push hook's typecheck is the unbuilt-workspace
    failure, not this change.)

Draft for review.

…provider

Adds Auto, Fast, and Max as selectable models under the `altimate-backend`
provider so a user can pick a tier in the model picker. Each tier's `api.id`
is the string sent to `/agents/v1`, where the backend resolves it (Auto ->
Sonnet default, Fast -> Haiku, Max -> Opus for entitled tenants; others fall
back to the default). `altimate-default` is kept for backward compatibility.

Pairs with altimate-backend#7068 (the server-side tier routing + entitlement).
Edit sits inside the existing `altimate_change` marker block (no new markers;
`analyze.ts --markers` clean).
