Closes #1059
Follow-up from #1049.

Summary

Wired setLogLevel, configureLogging, setDebugMode, and setMinLogLevel across Kotlin, Flutter, React Native, and Web SDKs into the RACommons C++ logger (rac_logger_set_min_level), matching the Swift pattern established in #1049. Previously, these setters only mutated host-side configuration state and left the C++ commons logging threshold unchanged.

Changes by SDK

  1. Commons / Native Bridges:

    • JNI (core/src/jni/runanywhere_commons_jni.cpp): Added JNI exports Java_com_runanywhere_sdk_native_bridge_RunAnywhereBridge_racLoggerSetMinLevel and Java_com_runanywhere_sdk_native_bridge_RunAnywhereBridge_racLoggerGetMinLevel.
    • WASM (bindings/web/wasm/CMakeLists.txt): Exported _rac_logger_set_min_level and _rac_logger_get_min_level.
    • Flutter FFI (bindings/flutter/packages/runanywhere/lib/native/native_functions.dart & dart_bridge.dart): Added bindings for rac_logger_set_min_level and rac_logger_get_min_level.
    • React Native Nitro (bindings/react-native/packages/core): Exposed loggerSetMinLevel and loggerGetMinLevel in the RunAnywhereCore spec and C++ hybrid implementation (HybridRunAnywhereCore.cpp).
  2. Log Level Parity & Synchronization:

    • Kotlin:
      • Added LogLevel.toRacLogLevel(): Int and racLogLevelToProto(Int): LogLevel mappings in SDKLogger.kt.
      • Hooked Logging.configure() and Logging.setMinLogLevel() to forward to RunAnywhereBridge.racLoggerSetMinLevel().
      • Added automatic sync on native library load in RunAnywhereBridge.kt.
    • Flutter:
      • Added LogLevelRacMapping extension and racLogLevelToProto helper in sdk_logger.dart.
      • Hooked SDKLoggerConfig.shared.configure() and setMinLogLevel() to call DartBridge.setCommonsMinLogLevel().
    • React Native:
      • Added syncCommonsLogLevel in LoggingManager.ts during configure() and setMinLogLevel().
      • Hooked SDK initialization in RunAnywhere.ts to sync the commons logger level upon native load.
    • Web:
      • Added _rac_logger_set_min_level and _rac_logger_get_min_level to EmscriptenRunanywhereModule interface.
      • Added toRacLogLevel and racLogLevelToProto in SDKLogger.ts.
      • Added decoupling sink setCommonsLogLevelSink in SDKLogger.ts wired to setCommonsMinLogLevel in EmscriptenModule.ts to avoid circular imports.
      • Registered modules automatically receive the configured minimum level on registerWasmModule().
  3. Tests:

    • Added unit tests per SDK covering bidirectional mapping and synchronization with teardown restoration:
      • Kotlin: LoggingParityTest.kt
      • Flutter: logging_parity_test.dart
      • React Native: LoggingParity.test.ts
      • Web: LoggingParity.test.ts (all 61 test files / 284 tests passing)

Checklist

  • Code follows project style guidelines
  • Bidirectional log level mappings implemented per SDK
  • Tested commons logger synchronization with prior level restored in teardown

Summary by cubic

Wires setLogLevel, configureLogging, setDebugMode, and setMinLogLevel into the RACommons C++ logger across Kotlin, Flutter, React Native, and Web. Previously these setters only updated host-side configuration and left the C++ logging threshold unchanged; now they call rac_logger_set_min_level through the JNI, WASM, FFI, and Nitro bridges to match the Swift behavior from #1049.

  • Adds bidirectional mappings between the proto LogLevel enum and the C-ABI rac_log_level_t integers in each SDK.
  • Syncs the configured minimum level when native libraries or WASM modules load, so registrations inherit the current setting.
  • Newly registered Web modules receive the active minimum level via a decoupling sink in EmscriptenModule.ts.
  • Adds unit tests per SDK covering mappings and synchronization, with teardown restoring prior levels.

Written for commit 60a0851. Summary will update on new commits.

📝 Walkthrough

Flutter, Kotlin, React Native, and Web now map SDK log levels to RACommons levels and synchronize configured minimum levels through their native or WASM bridges. Tests cover level mappings and configuration entrypoints across the four SDKs.

Changes: Cross-platform commons logging synchronization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Flutter FFI logging synchronization
bindings/flutter/packages/runanywhere/lib/foundation/logging/sdk_logger.dart, bindings/flutter/packages/runanywhere/lib/native/*, bindings/flutter/packages/runanywhere/test/logging_parity_test.dart
Flutter maps SDK and RACommons levels, adds native getter and setter access, and applies configured levels through the bridge. Tests cover mappings and logging entrypoints.
Kotlin JNI logging synchronization
bindings/kotlin/src/main/kotlin/com/runanywhere/sdk/infrastructure/logging/SDKLogger.kt, bindings/kotlin/src/main/kotlin/com/runanywhere/sdk/native/bridge/RunAnywhereBridge.kt, core/src/jni/runanywhere_commons_jni.cpp, bindings/kotlin/src/test/kotlin/com/runanywhere/sdk/infrastructure/logging/LoggingParityTest.kt
Kotlin maps SDK and RACommons levels and synchronizes configuration with the native logger. The bridge and JNI expose minimum-level access. Tests cover mappings and configuration updates.
React Native Nitro logging synchronization
bindings/react-native/packages/core/src/specs/RunAnywhereCore.nitro.ts, bindings/react-native/packages/core/cpp/HybridRunAnywhereCore.*, bindings/react-native/packages/core/src/Foundation/Logging/Services/LoggingManager.ts, bindings/react-native/packages/core/src/Public/RunAnywhere.ts, bindings/react-native/packages/core/tests/unit/LoggingParity.test.ts
React Native adds native minimum-level methods and applies configured levels through the logging manager and initialization facade. Tests cover the public logging entrypoints.
Web WASM logging synchronization
bindings/web/packages/core/src/Foundation/SDKLogger.ts, bindings/web/packages/core/src/runtime/EmscriptenModule.ts, bindings/web/wasm/CMakeLists.txt, bindings/web/packages/core/tests/unit/Foundation/LoggingParity.test.ts
Web SDK level changes propagate through a sink to registered WASM modules. The WASM interface and exports add minimum-level access. Tests cover mappings and logging entrypoints.

Synchronize assignments to Logging.configuration.

If a caller assigns a configuration after the native library loads, this public setter changes the Kotlin threshold but leaves the Commons threshold unchanged. Delegate the setter to configure(value) so both configuration paths use the new synchronization. This existing setter becomes inconsistent with the PR’s new logging contract.

Assert the Commons level after each public setter.

These tests check only the Dart configuration. If the native setter fails, DartBridge.setCommonsMinLogLevel suppresses the error and the tests still pass. Assert DartBridge.getCommonsMinLogLevel() after each public entrypoint. Run those assertions with a loaded native library; the getter otherwise returns INFO on failure. The PR objective requires a test that checks the Commons level after a setter.

Square Wire 5.5.1 Kotlin generated enum UNRECOGNIZED

💡 Result:

**Not by default.** In Wire 5.5.1, Kotlin enums default to `enum_class`; they don’t get an `UNRECOGNIZED` entry. Unknown enum values are handled by Wire’s unknown-field behavior rather than mapped to that constant.

To represent unknown values, set `enumMode = "sealed_class"` (or use the per-enum `wire.enum_mode` option). Wire generates a sealed class with an `Unrecognized` data class that carries the decoded value—not an enum constant named `UNRECOGNIZED`. ([github.com](https://github.com/square/wire/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md?utm_source=openai))

The 5.5.1 changelog lists other Kotlin changes but no change to this enum behavior. ([github.com](https://github.com/square/wire/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md?utm_source=openai))

Remove the unresolved enum reference.

Wire 5.5.1 generates Kotlin enum_class values without an UNRECOGNIZED constant. This test reference therefore prevents the Kotlin test source from compiling. Remove the assertion. toRacLogLevel already handles unmatched values with else -> 2.

Require native execution for the Commons parity assertions.

bindings/kotlin runs these tests as JVM tests, and the build does not guarantee that runanywhere_jni is loaded. When RunAnywhereBridge.isNativeLibraryLoaded() is false, the tests skip every Commons assertion and check only Kotlin configuration. Add a native precondition or run these assertions in a native integration test.

@margelo/nitro Promise<void>::async execution order concurrent calls documentation

💡 Result:

`Promise<void>` in a Nitro spec **doesn’t guarantee that concurrent calls run one at a time or finish in call order**. Nitro documents async implementations via `Promise.async` for Swift and Kotlin, but the cited documentation doesn’t specify ordering or serialization guarantees. ([nitro.margelo.com](https://nitro.margelo.com/docs/getting-started/what-is-nitro?utm_source=openai))

So, if JavaScript calls the method several times without awaiting each call, treat the native operations as potentially overlapping; their completion order is not guaranteed by the return type. That’s an inference from the absence of an ordering guarantee—not a claim that Nitro always runs them concurrently. If order matters, serialize calls in JavaScript (await each before starting the next) or add explicit serialization in the native implementation.

Serialize native log-level updates.

syncCommonsLogLevel starts each asynchronous native update without waiting for the previous update. Nitro does not guarantee completion order for concurrent async calls. A rapid sequence can therefore leave RACommons with an older level.

Keep the update chain alive if a bridge call rejects, so a failed update does not block later updates.

Update every registered WASM module.

getAllRegisteredModules() returns current capability owners, not every entry in _recordByModule. If a second module takes a capability, the first module can remain registered and framework-routable but miss later log-level changes. Iterate the registered module records for this broadcast so that module does not retain a stale threshold.

Restore the logger’s enabled state after each test.

The SDKLogger.configure test sets SDKLogger.enabled to true, but this cleanup restores only the level. Save and restore the previous enabled state so later tests do not inherit this test’s console-logging setting. Based on learnings, tests that change global state should reset that state in afterEach.

Thanks for this, @shobhitagnihotri69! This is the right shape for #1059 and the plumbing underneath is careful — the JNI pair, the Dart FFI bindings, the WASM exports and the Nitro spec all line up, the level mappings reuse each SDK's own scheme instead of clamping integers by hand, and I confirmed both JNI symbols are really in librunanywhere_jni.so. Nice, systematic piece of work.

The wiring itself is sound; the problem is that four of the four SDK jobs this PR touches are red at its own head (run 38739560754), each on a small thing in its own new code. All four are quick:

  1. bindings/react-native/packages/core/src/Public/RunAnywhere.ts:355 — LoggingManager is used but never imported (line 13 imports only SDKLogger), so yarn typecheck fails with TS2304. Add import { LoggingManager } from '../Foundation/Logging';. That same line has a second, subtler problem: it pushes LoggingManager's constructor default (DEVELOPMENT → DEBUG) into commons, and RN never calls applyEnvironmentConfiguration anywhere, so a production app would end up at DEBUG over rac_configure_logging's WARNING. Calling LoggingManager.shared.applyEnvironmentConfiguration(environment) first fixes it — Kotlin (RunAnywhere.kt:525) and Flutter (dart_bridge.dart:162) both derive the level from the init environment this way.

  2. bindings/flutter/packages/runanywhere/lib/native/dart_bridge.dart:592 (and :601) — NativeFunctions is used with no native_functions.dart import, so flutter analyze stops at undefined_identifier. Every sibling bridge imports it (e.g. dart_bridge_llm.dart:27).

  3. bindings/kotlin/src/test/kotlin/com/runanywhere/sdk/infrastructure/logging/LoggingParityTest.kt:53 — LogLevel.UNRECOGNIZED doesn't exist in Wire's generated enum (the proto only declares 0–5), so :compileDebugUnitTestKotlin breaks. Deleting the line is enough: the else -> 2 branch in toRacLogLevel already covers it. Same file, ktlint also fails at :21 (blank first line in the class body) and :107 (multiline expression).

  4. bindings/web/packages/core/tests/unit/Foundation/LoggingParity.test.ts:5 — LOG_LEVEL_TO_RAC is imported and never used, and web lint runs --max-warnings 0. Drop it from the import list.

One React Native test issue behind those, worth fixing in the same pass: the new LoggingManager import of NativeRunAnywhereCore (LoggingManager.ts:17) pulls the real Nitro runtime into ts-jest's Node environment, so three suites — SDKLoggerSecurity, ExternalJSONBoundaries (neither touched here) and the new LoggingParity — fail to run with SyntaxError: Cannot use import statement outside a module. Core goes 15/15 → 13/16 against a passing base. Either mock src/native/NativeRunAnywhereCore itself in the tests, or inject the native setter the way the Web side does with setCommonsLogLevelSink (SDKLogger.ts:31).

CodeRabbit's two 🟠 Major threads are the Kotlin UNRECOGNIZED line (discussion_r4283365894) and the web unused import (discussion_r4283365954) — both covered above. Its Minor points and cubic's P2s on test strength are real but bigger than this PR's scope, so I filed them instead of asking here: #{issue} (the Kotlin and Flutter parity tests can't fail today), #{issue} (the RN sync drops its promise and can land out of order), #{issue} (the Web broadcast misses demoted modules).

One optional, not needed for the merge: bindings/kotlin/src/main/kotlin/com/runanywhere/sdk/infrastructure/logging/SDKLogger.kt:134-138 — the public configuration setter assigns _configuration directly, so it is the one entry point that skips the new sync. Nothing in the repo assigns it today, so it is not a live bug; delegating it to configure(value) would close the gap if you're already in the file.

Once those are in we'll take another look. Thanks again — the design is exactly what the issue asked for.
