Paste rows into a table from the clipboard on Linux #3649
In a Linux table tab, Ctrl+V in the grid shows the toast "Pasting rows isn't supported yet" and does nothing else (linux/crates/app/src/ui/browse_tab/clipboard_handlers.rs:25, bound in linux/crates/app/src/application/accelerators.rs:192). linux/ROADMAP.md, Backlog, Browse, edit and structure, lists it: "Paste rows from the clipboard. Ctrl+V in the grid says it is not supported yet."
Copy already writes rows as tab-separated values, which a spreadsheet pastes into cells (linux/crates/app/src/ui/clipboard/clipboard_format.rs), so rows copied out of TablePro or a spreadsheet cannot come back in, and moving a few rows between two tables means Copy As INSERT and the editor, or a CSV file and Import CSV.
Proposed solution
Ctrl+V in an editable table tab reads tab-separated text from the clipboard and adds each line as a new pending row, the same kind Insert makes, so Save, Discard, undo and redo work as they do today.
Values map to columns in order, starting at the focused column. When the first line matches the column names, it is read as a header and values map by name.
Each value is parsed from its exact text, as cell edits are. Key, generated and auto-increment columns, and the binary, spatial, array and composite columns the grid cannot edit, are left on DEFAULT, and the toast says how many values were skipped.
With one value on the clipboard and a cell focused, paste edits that cell instead.
On a read-only connection, a view or a table without a primary key, the toast says why nothing was pasted.
Above a limit, such as 1,000 rows, ask first and point to Import CSV for more.
Done means: rows copied from a TablePro grid or a spreadsheet paste into another table as pending inserts, and saving them writes the rows.
Alternatives considered
Copy As INSERT and run the statements in the editor, or save the rows as CSV and use Import CSV.
