What & why

#970: _verification_selector refused any command that failed shell tokenization and merely mentioned artifact-authority. One example is a PowerShell here-string piped to a read-only validator, with JSON evidence citing the verifier. The selector raised UNSUPPORTED_HOST_SEAM: verifier wrapper command is malformed before the command ran.

The bug still exists on current main (3.2.6). The commit that refreshed this branch was itself blocked by it, because its message mentioned the wrapper and held an apostrophe.

Fix (core/pysrc/_artifactauthoritylib.py, synced to all three plugins)

  • When tokenization fails, keep the tokens parsed before the error.
  • Refuse only if that prefix actually is the python artifact-authority.py [verify] wrapper (via the extracted _verification_wrapper_start).
  • An unfinished quoted script path (python "…/artifact-authority.py) still refuses: the partial token is appended before the check.
  • Ordinary inert shell input returns no authority.
  • Exact authorization, corroboration and unittest result matching are unchanged.

Refresh onto 3.x

This branch was cut at ca 2.26.5, before the 3.0 engine rewrite, and was 78 commits behind main. I merged main in, without a force-push, and resolved every stale version, changelog, Atlas and provenance edit to main. The diff against main is now:

  • the selector fix and its four tests;
  • generated copies;
  • a ca 3.2.7 / ca-codex 0.20.7 / ca-pi 0.21.7 bump;
  • re-baselined tech-stack, coding-standards and security-controls provenance, with no document change.

Main has no Atlas pin on this file, so the old Atlas edits were dropped.

Tests

  • test_inert_powershell_here_string_is_not_verifier_authority and test_inert_powershell_wrapper_text_is_not_verifier_authority both fail on main's selector and pass with the fix.
  • test_selected_verifier_wrapper_with_unterminated_quotes_is_refused and test_selected_verifier_script_with_unterminated_quote_is_refused run across four interpreters. Removing the unfinished-script branch fails them.
  • Full test_artifact_authority_adapter.py: 275 tests, OK (1 skipped), run locally on Windows.
  • sync-core --check, provenance wiring and the control-byte check all pass.

Closes #970

An apostrophe in an inert PowerShell here-string caused the selector to
reject ordinary evidence as malformed verifier authority. Recognize
authority from the parsed Python wrapper prefix while retaining refusal
for malformed or compound selected wrappers.

Ship the shared hook fix in all three governance adapters with required
patch versions, regression cases, and scoped source provenance updates.

Closes #970
CHANGELOG: Allow inert PowerShell evidence that mentions the verifier.

📝 Walkthrough

In core/pysrc/_artifactauthoritylib.py:2732–2744, the selector now ignores malformed commands unless parsed tokens identify a verifier wrapper. This addresses inert PowerShell here-string evidence triggering a malformed-wrapper rejection.

Changes: Verifier authority selection

Layer / File(s) Summary
Verifier command selection
core/pysrc/_artifactauthoritylib.py, .github/scripts/test_artifact_authority_adapter.py
The selector shares command tokenization, recognizes Python verifier-wrapper prefixes, and raises for malformed recognized wrappers. Regression tests cover inert PowerShell here-strings and malformed selected Python commands.
Atlas source pins and validation
site/scripts/execution-maps/atlas.ts, site/scripts/execution-maps/atlas.test.ts, site/scripts/execution-maps/atlas-revalidation.test.ts
The atlas adds reviewed blob identities for the inert verifier collector and integrated authority source. Fixture and revalidation tests check those identities and source mappings.
Release notes and provenance hashes
CHANGELOG.md, plugins/ca-codex/CHANGELOG.md, plugins/ca-pi/CHANGELOG.md, .codearbiter/.provenance/release-targets.json
The root and plugin changelogs record the verifier-selection fixes. The provenance file updates their stored hashes.

Explanation

Issue #970 requires inert PowerShell evidence to avoid verifier selection, while genuine malformed or compound wrappers remain fail-closed. core/pysrc/_artifactauthoritylib.py now lexes the wrapper prefix before assigning malformed-command ownership. The added adapter tests cover inert here-strings, selected malformed wrappers, and compound-wrapper refusal. The summary also reports preserved authorization, corroboration, request, root, native-session, and freshness checks.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changelog, generated-source metadata, adapter tests, and Atlas blob/replacement-ref checks support delivery, parity, and provenance for the #970 fix. The provided summary shows no application qualification or initialization-gate changes. No concrete unrelated change is demonstrated.

Matching-only root corroboration compares each executing adapter's literal
version with its manifest. The submitted patch bumped manifests without
advancing those identities, so the descriptor gate correctly refused it.

Align the four owning constants and Codex npm metadata with the patch
versions, then regenerate shared hostapi copies. Preserve all root
validation predicates and the verifier selector regression fix.

Bind Atlas to the reviewed current collector while retaining its historical
unittest identity. Keep exact source-byte checks and seed its adversarial
scratch fixture from the current reviewed blob.

Update both manifest claims and hashes in the provenance map.

The manifests changed to 2.26.3 and 0.17.3, but .codearbiter/.provenance/code-map.json retains both old version claims and old hashes. The registered provenance test requires current versions and hashes, so it fails for these two entries.

The active CA and Codex code-map records still named the previous manifest
versions and source objects. Their semantic contract checks all three
installable hosts even when a record has automatic drift detection disabled.

Refresh only those two active claims and exact Git source hashes through
the supported schema1 provenance APIs. Preserve Pi, all flags, history,
unselected records, release targets and every runtime/test source byte.

Closes #970
CHANGELOG: Correct active CA and Codex manifest provenance.
Keep the inert verifier selector repair alongside the accepted native review
protocol update from main. Preserve each parent change and its historical Atlas
bindings, and bind the combined collector independently.

Advance the owning patch versions because main already contains the previous
versions, then align generated packages, host identities and active provenance.

Closes #970
CHANGELOG: Treat inert PowerShell evidence as ordinary shell input while retaining selected-wrapper refusal and exact authorization.
Preserve both inert-verifier and Unicode reconciliation release notes when
merging the latest main. Refresh only the three changelog provenance hashes;
retain incoming reconciliation source and tests byte-for-byte.

CHANGELOG: Keep both verifier and Unicode reconciliation fixes documented.
The current main already carries the previous three adapter versions.
Advance each patch and matching host identity so the verifier repair can
reach installed users. Preserve published Unicode reconciliation notes
and refresh only the affected release metadata and provenance.
This branch was cut at ca 2.26.5, before the 3.0 engine rewrite. Main
still has the #970 defect: _verification_selector rejects any command
that fails tokenization and merely mentions artifact-authority. This
commit's own first attempt was blocked by that exact defect.

All of the branch's stale version, changelog, Atlas and provenance edits
are resolved to main. The diff against main is now limited to:
- the selector fix and its four regression tests;
- generated copies;
- a fresh ca 3.2.7 / ca-codex 0.20.7 / ca-pi 0.21.7 bump;
- re-baselined tech-stack, coding-standards and security-controls
  provenance, with no document change.
