Copilot should create a ./tmp folder rather than asking permission to use root level /tmp #380
copilot seems to want to create scripts in /tmp folder and then ask for permission to write/execute things there. This is annoying. It should just create a local ./tmp folder in the directory it already has permissions to use. This means less back and forth with user approval.
Affected version
0.0.339 Commit: 66f4dfe
Steps to reproduce the behavior
Not clear how to reproduce, seems to be general instruction thing, example:
● Now let me understand the actual problem. When compile() is called and there's a
syntax error in the source code itself, Python raises a SyntaxError with the
filename that was passed to compile(). The issue the user is reporting is that
sometimes the filename shows as "<string>" instead of the actual Snakefile path.
Let me create a test to reproduce this:
✗ Create a test Snakefile with syntax error
$ cd /Users/cr/code/snakemake && cat > /tmp/test_snakefile_syntax.smk << 'EOF'
rule all:
input:
"test.txt"
rule test:
output:
"test.txt"
shell:
"echo hello > {output}"
),
EOF
cat /tmp/test_snakefile_syntax.smk
Rejected by you.
Not exactly what you're asking for, but should be enough: version 0.0.349 adds /tmp as an allowed path by default (requested in #306) unless --disallow-temp-dir is passed as an argument.
I'm still continuously hitting this issue - even if I've granted permission to the /tmp dir. And then I'll ask it to create a local .tmp folder, and then it falls foul again if it's cd'd into another deeper directory and does ../.tmp.
This is still a very annoying issue. No matter how may times you mention this in copilot-instructions it insists on using /tmp causing a pause in the process for a manual "Allow" request.

Indeed, this is a real productivity killer when using Copilot with GH SpecKit on macOS.

Please fix! This is my #1 greivance with copilot. You can't leave an agent alone because it will shortly ask you permission to read/write to /tmp.

Alternatively, you could add hooks for custom permissions request logic. This is a super useful feature in Claude Code.
