TimeoutError: Timeout after XXXs waiting for session.idle #558
Running copilot in CLI always result in a timeout error:
TimeoutError: Timeout after 60.0s waiting for session.idle
I already tried increasing the timeout but still no luck.
It's difficult to know what is going on without more information. Is it possible to provide more details about the state of the session if it's not idle in the exception?
I've labeled this as a bug that needs more information. The timeout error suggests the CLI isn't responding with expected events.
To help diagnose the issue, could you please provide:
Which SDK are you using? (Python, Node.js, Go, or .NET)
SDK version: Check your package manager (e.g., pip show copilot, npm list @github/copilot-sdk``)
Copilot CLI version: Run gh copilot version
Minimal code snippet: Share the code that triggers the timeout
Full stack trace: Include the complete error message and any preceding events
Also note: The error message improvement you suggested (showing session state in the timeout exception) is a great enhancement idea. Once we understand your specific case, we can consider adding better diagnostics to the SDK.
@TaoChenOSU The GitHub Copilot SDK is tied to a specific GitHub Copilot CLI version and invokes its bundled compatible CLI instead of the latest version installed on the system
@Rasaboun Does that mean I have to install the SDK compatible version to my system instead of the latest CLI version? If so, is there a table showing the compatible CLI version to each SDK version?

No it's bundled in the copilot-sdk package, for the compatible version check the changelog

I had the same problem, and this helped me: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/79892501/copilot-sdk-timeout
Add reproduction scripts for missing session.idle CLI bug (github#794)

I am already using non-streaming mode.
