Description

Fixes #1880

Problem

In src/custom/Modal/index.tsx, the modal header controls were not properly accessible:

  1. The enter/exit fullscreen controls rendered raw styled SVG icons (FullScreenIcon / FullScreenExitIcon) with click listeners instead of keyboard-operable button elements, lacking roles and accessible names.
  2. The close button (CloseBtn) lacked an aria-label, leaving screen readers to announce only an unlabeled "button".
  3. The close button and close icon hardcoded #fff fills, inconsistent with theme token conventions and currentColor inheritance.

Fix

  • Fullscreen controls: Rendered enter/exit fullscreen controls as native, keyboard-operable IconButton elements with explicit accessible names (aria-label="Enter fullscreen" / aria-label="Exit fullscreen"). Preserved existing data-testid attributes (modal-enter-fullscreen-btn, modal-exit-fullscreen-btn), tooltip titles, fullscreen-toggle logic, and visual layout.
  • Close control: Added aria-label="Close dialog" to CloseBtn while preserving the existing click handler and data-testid="modal-close-btn".
  • Icon colors: Removed hardcoded white fill values (#fff) from CloseBtn and <CloseIcon />, inheriting currentColor from the header styles.
  • API contract: Preserved Modal and useModal public prop types and contracts.

Tests & Validation

  • Added focused regression tests in src/__testing__/ModalHeaderControls.test.tsx verifying:
    • getByRole('button', { name: 'Enter fullscreen' }) and getByRole('button', { name: 'Close dialog' }) resolve by accessible name.
    • Toggling fullscreen updates accessible name to Exit fullscreen.
    • Controls are keyboard-focusable and activatable via Enter and Space.
    • Test IDs, tooltip behavior, and close behavior are preserved.
    • Header controls do not use hardcoded white color literals.
  • prettier --check src/custom/Modal/index.tsx src/__testing__/ModalHeaderControls.test.tsx: Passed
  • npm run lint: Passed (0 warnings/errors)
  • npm run build: Passed (ESM, CJS, DTS built successfully)
  • npm test: Passed (all 38 test suites passed, 655 total tests)

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Accessibility

    • Added accessible labels to the modal’s close and fullscreen controls.
    • Improved keyboard focusability and fullscreen enter/exit control behavior.
  • Style

    • Modal header icons now inherit their surrounding color.
    • Fullscreen controls use consistent button styling and dedicated fullscreen icons.
    • Updated fullscreen tooltip text for clearer presentation.

📝 Walkthrough

The modal fullscreen controls now use IconButton components with accessible labels. The close control also gains an accessible label. Header icons inherit their color. Tests cover names, test IDs, focusability, fullscreen toggling, and close-handler calls.

Explanation

Issue #1880 has coding requirements. The reviewed changes use IconButton wrappers for fullscreen controls with Enter fullscreen and Exit fullscreen accessible names. The close control has aria-label="Close dialog". The summary reports preserved test IDs, tooltips, fullscreen behavior, and close behavior. The controls use currentColor and remove the explicit white fill. The added tests cover names, toggling, focusability, activation, IDs, and close invocation. No public entity declarations changed, so the Modal and useModal contracts remain unchanged based on the available evidence.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes remain within issue #1880. The source changes affect modal header controls, accessibility labels, button behavior, tooltip text, and icon color inheritance. The added tests and dependency mocks support those modal tests. No unrelated feature, layout redesign, or public API change is shown.

Assert the SVG fill attribute contract.

In jsdom 26.1.0, getComputedStyle(svg).fill does not resolve currentColor like color, so comparing those computed values is not valid. Allow the close icon to inherit its color through CSS, and reject other SVG fill values.

Suggested fix
-    expect(closeSvg?.getAttribute('fill')).not.toBe('#fff');
-    expect(closeSvg?.getAttribute('fill')).not.toBe('#ffffff');
+    expect([null, 'currentColor']).toContain(closeSvg?.getAttribute('fill'));

     const fullscreenSvg = enterBtn.querySelector('svg');
-    expect(fullscreenSvg?.getAttribute('fill')).not.toBe('#fff');
-    expect(fullscreenSvg?.getAttribute('fill')).not.toBe('#ffffff');
+    expect(fullscreenSvg?.getAttribute('fill')).toBe('currentColor');

Use a real keyboard interaction in the keyboard test.

fireEvent.keyDown only dispatches the key event. The following fireEvent.click calls perform the fullscreen and close activations, so the test does not detect a regression in native keyboard activation. Add @testing-library/user-event and use user.keyboard('{Enter}') and user.keyboard(' ') on focused buttons. Otherwise, rename the test to remove its keyboard-activation claim.

Assert the tooltip result.

The test hovers over enterBtn but asserts only the close callback. Add an asynchronous assertion for the existing Enter Fullscreen text.
