Fixes #24196

Clause-②: yes

What

AuthSessionApi.getSession (packages/spec/src/contracts/auth-service.ts) says its result declares exactly the fields its in-process readers read, but it only declared user.id, session.userId and session.activeOrganizationId. This PR declares the other fields the card's readers read. Each one is optional, carries a TSDoc naming its reader, and is typed the way that reader takes it:

Declared Type Reader
user.email string resolveAuthzContext session arm (@objectstack/core) → ctx.email
user.authGate unknown normalizeAuthGate from the session arm. It validates the value against the closed posture vocabulary, so the contract declares it unvalidated, which is how that reader takes it
session.id string session arm, dropped-claim log line (the row id, never the token)
session.token string session arm → ctx.accessToken
session.impersonatedBy string or null print door impersonatorOf (@objectstack/service-print). The stored column sys_session.impersonated_by is a nullable lookup, and better-auth's admin plugin types it string or undefined

The two readers now read through the declared type. Both changes are type-only:

  • packages/core/src/security/resolve-authz-context.ts: the session arm's sessionData is annotated with the type AuthSessionApi.getSession declares it answers (SessionRead, derived locally with Awaited/ReturnType, so no new export). Before, it was the any that getSession's input type returns. ⛔ ResolveAuthzInput.getSession's own type is left at any. Tightening it would narrow a published input of @objectstack/core, which is a (narrowing) arm and breaking, and this card is a widening. That option goes back to the seat as an open question.
  • packages/services/service-print/src/print-routes.ts: impersonatorOf takes the declared SessionRead instead of unknown. That drops the as { session?: { impersonatedBy?: unknown } } cast. The same branches run on the same values: the optional chain replaces cast-then-chain, and the typeof by === 'string' narrowing stays.

packages/types/src/in-process-session-read.contract.test.ts (H4) pins the declaration's INPUT key for key (DeclaredInput), never the result. It needed no change and passes unchanged.

Verification

All of this ran at 7a60e0e5bb. The later merge of origin/main (b7f29ddfe2) brought only cli / metadata-protocol / rest / runtime / platform-objects files, none of which this diff touches.

  • pnpm --filter @objectstack/spec build → exit 0. check:generated → exit 0, "All 14 generated artifacts are up to date". No artifact changed: the result type is inline in an existing export.
  • Typecheck, downstream of @objectstack/spec, after building each package's closure: @objectstack/spec, @objectstack/types, @objectstack/core, @objectstack/service-print → exit 0. Then the four packages that implement or read AuthSessionApi: @objectstack/plugin-auth (its AuthManager.getApi() answers better-auth's own API, which still fits the widened result), @objectstack/plugin-sharing, @objectstack/service-datasource, @objectstack/plugin-hono-server → exit 0. plugin-auth's examples leg resolves plugin-auth's own dist, so it was re-run after building it.
  • Tests: @objectstack/core 109 files / 2617 tests passed. @objectstack/service-print 8 / 109 passed. @objectstack/types 27 / 759 passed.
  • Reverse verification, committed first, mutation via scripts/ablation-replace.mjs, each leg restored and checked as blob == HEAD, git diff HEAD empty:
    • core session?.token → session?.tokenRenamed: tsc exit 2, TS2339: Property 'tokenRenamed' does not exist on type '{ userId?…; id?…; token?…; impersonatedBy?… }'.
    • print session?.impersonatedBy; → session?.impersonatorId;: tsc exit 2, TS2339 on the same declared type.
    • A first print attempt used a replacement that contained its own anchor. The tool refused it (anchor 1 → 1) and restored the file. That attempt measured nothing, and the second leg above is the reading.
  • dispatch-gates --commands (84 families, change set derived against merge base 8259ea03e): 83 exit 0. The one exception is pnpm check:dual-build-cjs-loads, exit 3, PREREQUISITE NOT MET: it reads every package's dist, and this box built only the closures above. It is NOT MEASURED locally and is CI's reading. node scripts/check-plugin-teardown-shape.mjs --self-test first exited 3 on a shallow clone. After git fetch --unshallow it exits 0 (48 cases). --ran reconciliation: 84 derived, 83 run, 1 NOT-MEASURED (derived from the recorded exit 3).

Acceptance notes

The other getSession callers were read, not edited (the hold-off). Their reads of the result still go through any or a cast. Read on this branch:

  • plugin-auth/src/auth-plugin.ts: :2839 and :3229 call (authApi as any).getSession(…). :3229 also casts the result to { user?: { id?: unknown } }. :2776 and :2911 are typed by better-auth's Auth['api'], not AuthSessionApi. All four hand the session to judgePlatformAdmin / isPlatformAdminUser, which take unknown and cast. They read user.isPlatformAdmin, user.role, user.email, user.id and user.authGate.
  • rest/src/rest-server.ts:3416: gatedSession: any → normalizeAuthGate(gatedSession?.user). The closure at :3202 goes to resolveAuthzContext.
  • runtime/src/dispatcher-plugin.ts:214: const session: any → evaluateAuthGate. runtime/src/http-dispatcher.ts:1556 (let session: any → evaluateAuthGate) and :1678 (implicitly any; reads user.id, session.userId, session.activeOrganizationId). runtime/src/security/resolve-session-principal.ts:57: api: any; its callers read user.id / session.userId.
  • cloud-connection-plugin.ts:317 (any → evaluateAuthGate, then resolveAuthzContext). marketplace-install-local-plugin.ts:3352 reads session.activeOrganizationId or a top-level activeOrganizationId. service-storage/src/storage-service-plugin.ts:1176 reads the same top-level fallback.
  • plugin-webhooks/src/webhook-outbox-plugin.ts:627 and service-storage :953 / :1279: any, then evaluateAuthGate and user.id / session.activeOrganizationId.
  • normalizeAuthGate / evaluateAuthGate (packages/core/src/security/auth-gate.ts) keep their any parameter. They also validate non-session input ({ authGate: raw } from resolveUserAuthGates, and deliberately malformed test fixtures). Typing them is a separate change, not this card's.

The fields only those callers read (user.role, user.isPlatformAdmin, the top-level activeOrganizationId) are not declared here. The card scopes the declaration to its named readers, and each of those callers would have to drop its cast for the declaration to have a reader.

📓 Docs Drift Check

6 anchor(s) derived from 3 changed package(s); no hand-written page names any of them, so this run has nothing to list — not a clean bill of health. This check sees only pages that NAME a derived anchor: one that documents this change in prose, or enumerates it in an authoring dialect, names none and stays invisible to it on every run.

What this run could not see
  • 1 name(s) were too generic to anchor anything (single lowercase words)
  • the SDK route bridge reached 54 of 206 client-bound route-ledger rows — the other 152 have no registrar path: tail to select them, so pages documenting THEIR client methods cannot appear above, on this or any run. Of those 152: 0 are remediable by widening that discovery convention (an in-repo file declares the path; the convention did not scan it); 55 are structural — on a ledger where NOT ONE row is declared in-repo, so no discovery change reaches them at any price; 97 are undecided (no in-repo declaration, on a ledger that has other in-repo registrars — absence and an unreadable spelling are not distinguishable here). The rows themselves: node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --bridge-coverage
  • a page that states a rule by its inputs shares no identifier with the emitter that implements the rule, so an emitter-only diff cannot list it — not on this run and not on any run. Measured on fix(driver-sql): emit varchar(maxLength) for a text field a declared index keys on #11430: content/docs/protocol/objectql/types.mdx documents the text-family column mapping by the ObjectQL type names it maps FROM (text / textarea / html) while the diff changed createColumn; it went unlisted, and it was the page that diff falsified, in four places. No shared token exists to detect this on, so a rule your change carries has to be re-read by hand in the pages that restate it.
  • a key NAME is not a key, so the hand re-read the line above prescribes can land on the wrong schema. The same spelling is authorable on one governed type and a [REMOVED] tombstone on another for each of active, aria, joins, objects, template, tools and version (censused on [finding] tools is a key on BOTH AgentSchema (tombstoned, dead) and SkillSchema (live, cloud-attested), so a name-based search attributes skill examples to the agent key — it produced a false stop-the-line alarm on PR #19059 #19093 over the liveness ledger's governed types, top-level keys); nothing in a search result distinguishes the two, so a grep hit on a LIVE example reads as evidence about the DEAD key. Measured on fix(spec): the agent.tools liveness row says dead — it claimed live on a key the schema tombstoned #19059: content/docs/ai/agents.mdx was reported as contradicting the agent.tools tombstone over its tools: example at :161, which is inside the defineSkill({ block opened at :155 — the page was already correct. Settle ownership by PARSING the value against both schemas, never by the name: that literal PASSES SkillSchema, and as an AgentSchema it FAILS at tools with the tombstone prescription. ⛔ These names are not the whole class — a key retired through a .strict() guidance map leaves no tombstone in the walked shape and none of them here (tool.category, live as AIToolDefinition.category).

Coarse fallback — 149 page(s) merely mention a changed package (the pre-#9192 predicate, kept for the deliberately-wide backstop): node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json b7f29ddfe2390dfa5f2c5fc240be03fb6c4aa761 → packageMentionDocs.

Which tree this was computed on

This run read content/docs from ad14498fb03b3286e0b9c447087277efc233487a — the merge of head 6d0b827cd7246bdb6f691166778768b59d508a44 into base b7f29ddfe2390dfa5f2c5fc240be03fb6c4aa761, which is what actions/checkout gives a pull_request run. Not the PR head.

A worktree cut from an older main holds a different content/docs, so re-deriving there can legitimately return a different list — that is a different tree, not a wrong row. To answer on the same tree:

# while this PR is open — GitHub drops the merge commit once it closes
git fetch origin ad14498fb03b3286e0b9c447087277efc233487a && git checkout ad14498fb03b3286e0b9c447087277efc233487a
# afterwards, rebuild it from the two parents, which stay fetchable
git fetch origin b7f29ddfe2390dfa5f2c5fc240be03fb6c4aa761 6d0b827cd7246bdb6f691166778768b59d508a44 && git checkout -B drift-repro b7f29ddfe2390dfa5f2c5fc240be03fb6c4aa761 && git merge --no-ff 6d0b827cd7246bdb6f691166778768b59d508a44

node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json b7f29ddfe2390dfa5f2c5fc240be03fb6c4aa761

⚠️ That checkout carried uncommitted changes, so the commit above does not fully identify what was read.

Contract review

Served-tier: CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER
Head-sha: 6d0b827cd7246bdb6f691166778768b59d508a44
Local-runs: none
Scope: packages/spec/src/contracts/auth-service.ts + packages/core/src/security/resolve-authz-context.ts, packages/core/src/security/auth-gate.ts, packages/services/service-print/src/print-routes.ts, packages/types/src/in-process-session-read.contract.test.ts, .changeset/24196-auth-session-api-declared-fields.md

PR #24220 for card #24196, isolated at-tier review, read-only. The head is a merge of origin/main b7f29ddfe2 into the dev branch; the net diff against that merge base is 4 files, +62/-10, and matches GitHub's PR diff byte for byte (index lines aside). The PR head had not moved past this sha when read. Inputs: the card body and its three comments (triage 6238150376, claim 6239818388, dev report 6240499223), the PR body, file list and diff, the head's check-runs, and the cited code read at the head.

① Derived judgments

Public surface, one change: AuthSessionApi.getSession's result gains five optional members. Each one judged against the reader named on it, read at the head:

  • user.email: string — right. Read at resolve-authz-context.ts:562 onto ctx.email.
  • user.authGate: unknown — right. Read at :555 as normalizeAuthGate(sessionData?.user); auth-gate.ts:52 reads sessionUser?.authGate and nothing else off the user, then validates code against AuthGateCodeSchema and fills message itself. The card's "auth-gate fields normalizeAuthGate reads" is therefore one field, and declaring it unvalidated is exactly how that reader takes it (its parameter is any; it also validates non-session input at :110). A narrower declared shape would restate the validator's job in the contract.
  • session.id: string — right. Read at :559 for the dropped-claim log line, with the row-id-never-token comment intact.
  • session.token: string — right. Read at :561 onto ctx.accessToken.
  • session.impersonatedBy: string | null — right. Read at print-routes.ts:274 by impersonatorOf. null is a value the row carries: sys_session.impersonated_by is Field.lookup('sys_user', { required: false }) (platform-objects/src/identity/sys-session.object.ts:235). A contract return wider than better-auth's own string | undefined is sound for the implementer (narrower is assignable to wider), and the reader narrows with typeof by === 'string' before use.

Nothing undeclared is read by the two readers, which is the card's other half ("if a field turns out not to be read by any reader, it is not declared", and its converse). Every sessionData read in the session arm is at :549 to :562: user.id, session.userId, session.activeOrganizationId, user (to normalizeAuthGate), session.id, session.token, user.email — all declared, no cast around sessionData. The print door reads sessionRead?.session?.impersonatedBy alone, and the former as { session?: { impersonatedBy?: unknown } } cast is gone.

Accept sets: none move. No Zod schema, no authorable key, no REST route, no runtime branch is touched. All three source hunks are type-only; impersonatorOf keeps the same typeof and trim() branches on the same values, and resolveCaller returns the same session under the same credential === 'session' condition.

Widening only, so every implementer and caller typechecks unchanged: each new member is optional, which plugin-auth's getApi() (better-auth's own api) and the const api: AuthSessionApi = {...} literal in the types contract test both still satisfy. CI's Type Check · source gates, consumer gates, debt ledger and workspace legs are all success on the head, which covers the closure the dev typechecked by hand (spec, types, core, service-print, plugin-auth, plugin-sharing, service-datasource, plugin-hono-server).

@objectstack/core's published surface is unchanged: SessionRead is a module-local alias (not exported) and ResolveAuthzInput.getSession stays what it was: a function of headers: any answering a Promise of any, or any. Right; the option of tightening it is ③ item 1.

@objectstack/service-print: ResolvedCaller.session and the getSession closure go from unknown to SessionRead, both module-internal. let sessionRead: SessionRead is legal before assignment because the declared result is {...} | undefined, so the alias includes undefined. Right.

Generated artifacts: no .describe(), no Zod and no export added or removed, so no api-surface, json-schema, docs or authorable-surface artifact moves; the dev reports check:generated exit 0 at 7a60e0e5 and the Type Check · source gates leg that carries its reconcile is success. The types contract test (DeclaredInput, the first parameter type of getSession) pins the input only, so the result widening leaves it untouched — right that it needed no change.

The docblock's standing claim, "exactly the fields below that they read", now holds for every read this card names. One position outside this diff still contradicts it: a top-level activeOrganizationId fallback, confirmed on the head at service-storage/src/storage-service-plugin.ts:1176 (session?.session?.activeOrganizationId ?? session?.activeOrganizationId) and named by the dev at marketplace-install-local-plugin.ts:3352. Out of this diff, escalated in ③ item 5.

Gate verdicts on the head, read off the check-runs (theirs, not this record's; this record does not wait on them): Lint & Repo Gates success; Build Core success; Governed Surface Queue Guard success (no governed path in the file list); TypeScript Type Check success (all four legs, workspace included, success); Check Changeset success; the card-claim, single-writer and part-of checks success; Test Core (1/6) to (6/6) still in_progress at the time of writing. The queue leg lands only once the required five are success.

② Semver level

.changeset/24196-auth-session-api-declared-fields.md: @objectstack/spec: minor, @objectstack/core: patch, @objectstack/service-print: patch. Matches what the diff publishes: spec widens a published contract's result type, which is minor (the floor a Clause-②: yes line demands); core and service-print change no exported surface and no runtime behaviour, type-only reader edits in released packages, so patch (never skip-changeset). Not breaking, so no ADR-0087 disposition marker is owed. The Clause-②: line reads Clause-②: yes (widening) on the changeset and Clause-②: yes on the PR body: both are well-formed readings of the one reader (clause2-line.mjs: yes and yes (widening) are the same declaration, the second said out loud), and both are truthful — a declaration widening, no narrowing anywhere in the diff. Check Changeset is success. Right.

③ Boundary flags

Every dev flag and open_questions entry from report 6240499223:

  1. open_question — type ResolveAuthzInput.getSession as returning the declared result (B) or leave it any (A)? Answered: A, as shipped. B narrows a published @objectstack/core input, a Clause-②: yes (narrowing) with an ADR-0087 disposition, inside a card triage graded as a widening; its pull is unmeasured (every closure in the tree returns api.getSession(...) or any, 15 call sites per the dev). B becomes its own card only on a named external caller or measured drift. The dev's recommendation stands.
  2. deviation — the harness attribution reminder versus the model-free trailer pair: checked on the branch's one non-merge commit 7a60e0e5, which carries the model-free Claude-Session: and Co-authored-by: pair the rule requires. Resolved.
  3. deviation — the PR was not subscribed to CI (os-dev contract): no review consequence; the gate verdicts are read off the head above.
  4. pnpm check:dual-build-cjs-loads NOT MEASURED locally (exit 3, prerequisite not met): Lint & Repo Gates carries it and is success on the head. Closed.
  5. out_of_scope_finding, "carrier: none, not filed" — the other getSession callers still read through any or a cast (plugin-auth :2839 and :3229 as (authApi as any), the runtime, rest, cloud-connection, webhooks and storage sites the dev lists), and two of them read a top-level activeOrganizationId the contract never declared (confirmed at storage-service-plugin.ts:1176). Escalated, not blocking: the first half is the contract's own docblock contradicted again — the same class this card was filed as, a contract violation, which Prime Directive 10 wants as a card rather than an acceptance note; the second half is a consumer ?? fallback tolerating an off-contract shape (Prime Directive 12: a declared ADR-0087 conversion or removal, never a bare fallback). This reviewer's one write channel is this comment, so the seat files one follow-up card covering both halves: each remaining reader either reads through the declared type with its field declared for it (user.role and user.isPlatformAdmin with judgePlatformAdmin as the named reader, if that is the direction) or is typed by better-auth's own handle on purpose, and the top-level fallback is converted or removed. Not a FAIL reason here: the dispatch held those callers out of scope ("read to name readers, not edited") and the card's Wanted is met exactly.

No governed path in the file list; the PR is a draft with auto-merge unarmed; the head repository is the base repository, so this is a delivery, not a fork proposal.

Reviewer of record. Every item below was checked against GitHub and the code, not against the report (6240499223 on #24196).

  • Shape: draft, base main. The first line is Fixes #24196, the body's only closing keyword, then Clause-②: yes, matching claim 6239818388. 4 files, +62/−10, assignee os-project-manager. Not governed: check-governed-merges.mjs --pr 24220 reads 0 of 4 paths on the register, under 3000 lines. The head merges origin/main b7f29ddfe into the branch. The incoming files are disjoint from this diff.
  • What it lands:
    • AuthSessionApi.getSession's result gains five optional members. Each names its reader and is typed as that reader takes it: user.email, user.authGate (unknown), session.id, session.token and session.impersonatedBy (string | null).
    • resolveAuthzContext's session arm (@objectstack/core) and the print door's impersonatorOf (@objectstack/service-print) read through the declared type. The unknown cast is gone. Both reader edits are type-only, and SessionRead is module-local in each.
    • A changeset of spec minor plus core and service-print patch.
    • The changeset's sentences were read against the diff, including "Every member is optional, so every implementer and caller typechecks unchanged", which CI's four Type Check legs confirm.
  • Reverse proof (report): renaming the core read to session?.tokenRenamed, or the print read to session?.impersonatorId, fails tsc with TS2339 against the declared type. Each leg was restored with the blob equal to HEAD.
  • Contract review: PASS 6240835611 on this head (CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER). It agrees with spec minor, core and service-print patch, and Clause-②: yes (widening), and it answers open_questions[0] A: ResolveAuthzInput.getSession stays any.
  • Cross-lane: declared on the domain:engine seat post (6240682640) and the domain:services seat post (6240688633). No objection was raised.
  • Gates: 41 check-runs on 6d0b827cd7, all completed: 35 success, 6 skipped (all in check-expected-skips.mjs's roster, matched by name). The five required contexts are success. Mergeable, state clean.
  • Deviations, accepted:
    • the PR was not subscribed (os-dev contract);
    • the model-free trailer pair is on 7a60e0e5;
    • check:dual-build-cjs-loads was left to CI, and Lint & Repo Gates is success.
  • Out of scope, filed: the other getSession readers that still read through any or a cast, and the top-level activeOrganizationId fallback in service-storage and cloud-connection (the review's ③ escalation). Filed as contracts: the other getSession readers still read the session through any or a cast, and two read a top-level activeOrganizationId that AuthSessionApi never declares (the follow-up to #24196) #24222. It is ordered after this PR.
  • Accepted as is: in print-routes.ts, the new SessionRead alias sits between ResolvedCaller's docblock ("The caller, as the door resolved it…") and the interface. That docblock now attaches to nothing. The interface is unexported and the defect is cosmetic, so a push for it alone would cost a CI cycle and a new review record.

The PR goes to the merge queue in this act. The cloud dev session is archived.
