Fixes #25610

Clause-②: yes (widening)
Metadata-protocol: added
Ruling-ref: 6377731715

The protocol half of #25571. Ruling 6377731715 on #25496 (batch #388 item 4, letter B for #25444), agreeing with 6377842908 on this row: 「收件人只能来自记录的 email 类型字段,⛔ 不接受自由文本或表达式拼出的地址;按地址限速,记消息日志」. The runtime half (resolving the field to an address, template render, outbound mail configuration, per-address rate limit, guest-input sanitising, the messaging-log entry) is #25571 and is not in this PR.

What changes

@objectstack/spec — the form. notify.recipients takes a fourth union arm, NotifyEmailFieldRecipientSchema (exported, with its type NotifyEmailFieldRecipient): { emailField: 'applicant_email' }, a closed object whose one key holds a field's machine name (FieldSchema.name grammar). A string can never parse as it (a string stays a user id or audience selector), and an envelope can never parse as it (an envelope stays a CEL value; emailField holding an envelope is refused). Two more constraints ride NotifyConfigSchema:

  • it is the WHOLE recipients value, never a list entry (refused with its own sentence);
  • the node names email as its only channel (channels: 'email' or ['email']); no channels, or any other channel, is refused at channels. An address no user holds has no inbox.

@objectstack/lint — the publish-time refusal. validateNotifyEmailFieldRecipients, a reference-integrity suite member (so os validate, os lint, os build and the runtime publish door for a flow write all run it), resolves the named field against the trigger object's declared fields. Three gating verdicts:

rule id when
notify-email-field-unknown the trigger object declares no such field
notify-email-field-not-email the field is declared and is not email-typed
notify-email-field-no-trigger-record the flow hands its run no record of a known object: a schedule, an inbound api call, a record trigger naming no object, or no record trigger at all

The triggering record's object is the start node's objectName for a record trigger and timeRelative.object for a time-relative sweep. A trigger object this stack does not declare (another package's, sys_*) or one declaring no fields is skipped, like the rest of the field-existence family.

Measured premise (origin/main 481ac62)

  • NotifyRecipientsSlotSchema (was :292) types recipients (was :547) as string | list | CEL envelope. Holds.
  • PM assumption "a liveness-ledger row in packages/spec/liveness/flow.json": disproved. FlowNodeSchema.config is z.record(z.string(), z.unknown()) (flow.zod.ts:630), and flow.json holds nodes.config as a single live leaf with no children. No ledger row can name a notify config key, let alone one union arm of its value. So no ledger row was added and the gate was not touched. Instead, the recipients .describe() (what authors read in Studio and the reference docs) and the changeset both say delivery is not live until the messaging half lands.
  • What a run does with the form today (read, not executed): notify-node.ts#resolveRecipients hands a non-envelope object through resolveValueSlot unchanged and fails the node with "evaluated to a map, not a recipient". So the form fails at the node, loudly. It is never silently dropped.

Tests

The full package suites ran on 8934b74b, before the one origin/main merge (8040d181, which brought #25617). On the final head 433f7f2005 (merge plus the ADR-0122 NotifyEmailFieldRecipientParsed alias) I re-ran tsc --noEmit for spec, the four touched test files (139 tests), check:generated (all 14 up to date) and every derived gate (below).

  • pnpm --filter @objectstack/spec test: 715 files / 21704 tests passed (1 todo). Includes the new notify-email-field-recipient.test.ts (17 tests) and the updated JSON-Schema arm pin in io-node-config.test.ts.
  • pnpm --filter @objectstack/lint test: 159 files / 7243 passed, 5 skipped. Includes the new validate-notify-email-field-recipients.test.ts (11 tests) and the suite's member list and every-member-fires pins.
  • pnpm --filter @objectstack/spec typecheck, pnpm --filter @objectstack/lint typecheck: green.
  • Consumer: pnpm --filter @objectstack/service-automation typecheck and test (199 files / 2628 tests) green. It parses NotifyConfigSchema at execute time.
  • Ablations (each mutation went through scripts/ablation-replace.mjs, which checks the anchor hit and that restore left git diff HEAD empty):
    • lint if (type !== EMAIL_FIELD_TYPE) to if (false): 3 tests red (not-email, nested region, publish door). Restored, blob == HEAD.
    • spec if (channels.length !== 1 || channels[0] !== 'email') to if (false): 4 tests red. Restored, blob == HEAD.

Gates

Derived with node scripts/pm/dispatch-gates.mjs --commands --repo objectstack-ai/objectstack on 433f7f2005: 113 commands, every one exit 0. Each exit code was captured to a file before any pipe. --ran reconciliation: "113 derived famil(ies) accounted for — 113 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED (a DERIVED zero — all 113 recorded an exit code and none of them is 3)".

  • The first pass, on 8040d181, had three prerequisite refusals (exit 3): check-plugin-teardown-shape --self-test (shallow clone), check:skill-examples (client packages not built) and check:dual-build-cjs-loads (no dist). It also had one real finding: check:spec-parsed-alias (ADR-0122: a bare alias read z.infer). I fixed the finding in 2a26b7e90b, unshallowed the clone, built client and client-react, and re-ran the whole list. All green.
  • Local-only check:dev-prereqs: exit 0.
  • test:repo, dogfood and the full farm are CI's. There is no ! in the title and no (narrowing) arm, so no dogfood battery is owed.

Acceptance notes

  • Decided in this PR, beyond the ruling's words (reviewer, please confirm): (1) the form is the whole recipients value, never a list entry; (2) the node must name email as its only channel. Both are narrow on purpose. Widening either later is non-breaking. Narrowing after release would be breaking.
  • Not judged: a trigger object another package declares. The runtime half resolves the field against the live object.
  • No ADR edit. ADR-0012 already maps a resolved recipient to an email address on the email channel. This PR stays off governed surfaces.
  • Docs: only the auto-generated reference changed. The hand-written content/docs/automation/flows.mdx recipients paragraph is not touched, so it does not advertise a form the runtime does not deliver yet. It belongs with service-messaging: a flow notify node can only address system users, so an applicant who came in through a public form never hears "received" or "rejected" #25571.
  • Existing literal-address path (observation, not changed here): today a plain string recipient that looks like an email, or a CEL envelope that evaluates to one, already reaches service-messaging's email channel as a literal address (email-channel.ts#resolveRecipient, EMAIL_SHAPE). The recipients docblock lists "an email address" as an audience selector. The ruling's 「⛔ 不接受自由文本或表达式拼出的地址」 reads against that path too. Narrowing it is a breaking change outside this card. Reported to the seat in the dev report.

📓 Docs Drift Check

This PR changes 2 package(s): @objectstack/lint, @objectstack/spec, touching 30 documentable anchor(s). ⚠️ 6 changed file(s) yielded no anchor (packages/lint/src/index.ts, packages/spec/api-surface/automation.json, packages/spec/authorable-surface/automation.json, …), so the pages documenting them are NOT COVERED by this run — this is not a clean bill of health for those files.

13 hand-written doc(s) NAME something this change touched and may need an implementation-accuracy re-verification:

  • content/docs/api/declarative-endpoints.mdx (via record_change (literal, a string literal in triggerRecordObjectOf))
  • content/docs/api/plugin-endpoints.mdx (via record_change (literal, a string literal in triggerRecordObjectOf))

  • content/docs/ui/actions.mdx (via record_change (literal, a string literal in triggerRecordObjectOf))

⛔ 4 release-owned page(s) also name something this change touched. These are read-only:

  • content/docs/releases/v12.mdx (via record_change (literal, a string literal in triggerRecordObjectOf))
  • content/docs/releases/v16.mdx (via time_relative (literal, a string literal in triggerRecordObjectOf))
  • content/docs/releases/v17/17-0.mdx (via record_change (literal, a string literal in triggerRecordObjectOf))
  • content/docs/releases/v17/17-5.mdx (via time_relative (literal, a string literal in triggerRecordObjectOf))

content/docs/releases/ is RELEASE-OWNED (AGENTS.md "Documentation Guardrails"): release
notes are written centrally at release time, and a code PR that edits them is the exact PR
that guardrail exists to stop. They are still audited — read-only. If one of them is actually
wrong, file an issue or open a dedicated docs-only PR; do not edit it here.

What this run could not see
  • 6 changed file(s) yielded no anchor (packages/lint/src/index.ts, packages/spec/api-surface/automation.json, packages/spec/authorable-surface/automation.json, …) — pages documenting those are invisible to this run
  • 5 name(s) were too generic to anchor anything (single lowercase words)
  • the SDK route bridge reached 54 of 206 client-bound route-ledger rows — the other 152 have no registrar path: tail to select them, so pages documenting THEIR client methods cannot appear above, on this or any run. Of those 152: 0 are remediable by widening that discovery convention (an in-repo file declares the path; the convention did not scan it); 55 are structural — on a ledger where NOT ONE row is declared in-repo, so no discovery change reaches them at any price; 97 are undecided (no in-repo declaration, on a ledger that has other in-repo registrars — absence and an unreadable spelling are not distinguishable here). The rows themselves: node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --bridge-coverage
  • a page that states a rule by its inputs shares no identifier with the emitter that implements the rule, so an emitter-only diff cannot list it — not on this run and not on any run. Measured on fix(driver-sql): emit varchar(maxLength) for a text field a declared index keys on #11430: content/docs/protocol/objectql/types.mdx documents the text-family column mapping by the ObjectQL type names it maps FROM (text / textarea / html) while the diff changed createColumn; it went unlisted, and it was the page that diff falsified, in four places. No shared token exists to detect this on, so a rule your change carries has to be re-read by hand in the pages that restate it.
  • a key NAME is not a key, so the hand re-read the line above prescribes can land on the wrong schema. The same spelling is authorable on one governed type and a [REMOVED] tombstone on another for each of active, aria, joins, objects, template, tools and version (censused on [finding] tools is a key on BOTH AgentSchema (tombstoned, dead) and SkillSchema (live, cloud-attested), so a name-based search attributes skill examples to the agent key — it produced a false stop-the-line alarm on PR #19059 #19093 over the liveness ledger's governed types, top-level keys); nothing in a search result distinguishes the two, so a grep hit on a LIVE example reads as evidence about the DEAD key. Measured on fix(spec): the agent.tools liveness row says dead — it claimed live on a key the schema tombstoned #19059: content/docs/ai/agents.mdx was reported as contradicting the agent.tools tombstone over its tools: example at :161, which is inside the defineSkill({ block opened at :155 — the page was already correct. Settle ownership by PARSING the value against both schemas, never by the name: that literal PASSES SkillSchema, and as an AgentSchema it FAILS at tools with the tombstone prescription. ⛔ These names are not the whole class — a key retired through a .strict() guidance map leaves no tombstone in the walked shape and none of them here (tool.category, live as AIToolDefinition.category).

Coarse fallback — 144 page(s) merely mention a changed package (the pre-#9192 predicate, kept for the deliberately-wide backstop): node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json ca80f05ec5c6aab22f31553cb5f8737a17450563 → packageMentionDocs.

Which tree this was computed on

This run read content/docs from 2c2fd40673cc2c709e008a09b4adaf84d9b4689e — the merge of head 433f7f2005c1d37a3eb8fea3569d9b874103aee4 into base ca80f05ec5c6aab22f31553cb5f8737a17450563, which is what actions/checkout gives a pull_request run. Not the PR head.

A worktree cut from an older main holds a different content/docs, so re-deriving there can legitimately return a different list — that is a different tree, not a wrong row. To answer on the same tree:

# while this PR is open — GitHub drops the merge commit once it closes
git fetch origin 2c2fd40673cc2c709e008a09b4adaf84d9b4689e && git checkout 2c2fd40673cc2c709e008a09b4adaf84d9b4689e
# afterwards, rebuild it from the two parents, which stay fetchable
git fetch origin ca80f05ec5c6aab22f31553cb5f8737a17450563 433f7f2005c1d37a3eb8fea3569d9b874103aee4 && git checkout -B drift-repro ca80f05ec5c6aab22f31553cb5f8737a17450563 && git merge --no-ff 433f7f2005c1d37a3eb8fea3569d9b874103aee4

node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json ca80f05ec5c6aab22f31553cb5f8737a17450563

⚠️ That checkout carried uncommitted changes, so the commit above does not fully identify what was read.

Advisory only, and a precision-first one (#9192): a page is listed because it names a
symbol, wire route or SDK method this diff touched — not because it mentions a changed
package. Each row says which anchor put it there, so a wrong row is reportable rather than
merely annoying. To re-verify, run the docs-accuracy-audit workflow scoped to these files:
node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs ca80f05ec5c6aab22f31553cb5f8737a17450563 → pass the list as
args.docs, on the commit named under Which tree this was computed on.

ACCEPT · #25610 · domain:spec seat 2 (seat post #18549) · sunhaolin · session session_01PC4NPXPgPmpDRG9DdDnyXT · 2026-10-24T12:58Z · head 433f7f2005 · report 6384295899 · seat review at TIER_DEFAULT. Both clause-② limbs hit (path: packages/spec/src/automation/io-node-config.zod.ts; declaration: Clause-②: yes), so a same-shape ## Contract review PASS at CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER on the landing head is owed. needs:contract-review is added in this stroke. That tier is still behind its quota wall (HTTP 429, re-probed at this record), so this PR stays draft until the review runs.

  1. Shape. Draft, base main, first line Fixes #25610; Clause-②: yes (widening), Metadata-protocol: added and Ruling-ref: 6377731715 are line-initial. The changeset is minor on @objectstack/spec and @objectstack/lint and carries both declarations. 17 files, +682/−22 (get_files), all inside the claim's surface: the spec schema and its two test files, the lint member, its suite wiring and test, generated files (api-surface, authorable-surface, declaration-map, export-origins, json-schema.manifest, the strictness-ledger counts, two reference pages), and the changeset. Not governed (check-governed-merges --pr 25645: 704 lines). No content/docs/releases/.
  2. The ruling, measured on the diff. Letter B for service-messaging: a flow notify node can only address system users, so an applicant who came in through a public form never hears "received" or "rejected" #25444, under 6377842908's execution condition: 「收件人只能来自记录的 email 类型字段,⛔ 不接受自由文本或表达式拼出的地址」.
    • NotifyEmailFieldRecipientSchema is a closed { emailField } arm whose value must match the FieldSchema.name grammar. It is the fourth arm of NotifyRecipientsSlotSchema, after the CEL envelope, so a string still parses as a recipient string and an envelope as an envelope. Neither an address nor an expression can parse as this arm.
    • @objectstack/lint's reference-integrity member validateNotifyEmailFieldRecipients resolves the field against the trigger object (the start node's objectName, or timeRelative.object). It refuses an unknown field, a field that is not email-typed, and a flow with no typed triggering record.
    • The rate limit and messaging log are service-messaging: a flow notify node can only address system users, so an applicant who came in through a public form never hears "received" or "rejected" #25571's, as the claim set.
  3. Changeset, checked line by line against the diff.
    • "a string in recipients stays a user id or an audience selector, and an envelope stays a CEL value": the union order and the arm's closed shape.
    • "The node names email as its only channel … a node with no channels, or one naming any other channel, is refused": the new superRefine arm on NotifyConfigSchema at channels.
    • "The form is the whole recipients value, never a list entry": the list branch of notifyRecipientsRefusal.
    • The three lint rule ids match the member.
    • "until it does, a run that reaches such a node fails at the node": on origin/main, service-automation notify-node.ts resolveRecipients (about :207–:240) returns ok: false for any evaluated non-string item ("…, not a recipient"). Read, not executed.
  4. Gates. Check-runs on 433f7f2005 at this record: 41 in all; 31 success, 6 skipped (opt-in and path-filtered), 4 in progress (Test Core 2/6–5/6), 0 failed. Lint & Repo Gates and TypeScript Type Check are both success. Local, per the report:
    • 113/113 derived, all exit 0, --ran DERIVED zero.
    • spec 715 files / 21704 tests; lint 159 files / 7243 tests; consumer service-automation typecheck and 199 files / 2628 tests.
    • Ablations: the lint type check 3 red, the spec channel check 4 red, both restored.
    • Landing waits for every check green and the contract-review PASS.
  5. Deviations accepted.
  6. Open questions and out-of-scope outcomes.
  7. Landing. Not governed, 704 changed lines. Once a CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER PASS is on record and every check on the then-current head is green, the seat sends pr_ready + automerge_enable through the relay.

⛔ Not a claim on the card and no label change now. Under the cross-account review patrol (is:pr is:open label:needs:contract-review, PRs not signed by this account), this seat runs the CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER review per contract-review.md as an isolated subagent; its ## Contract review record lands on this PR. On PASS the record's writer removes needs:contract-review in the same stroke; on FAIL the label stays. If another account's review is already under way, say so here and this seat yields.

① Derived judgments

  1. Accept-set widening at NotifyConfigSchema.recipients — right. NotifyRecipientsSlotSchema gains a fourth union arm, NotifyEmailFieldRecipientSchema: a strictObject whose one key emailField is a string matching /^[a-z_][a-z0-9_]*$/. That regex is FieldSchema.name's own (field.zod.ts:1187), so the arm holds a field machine name and nothing else: an address written out fails the regex, an envelope written as the value fails the string check, and a key beside emailField is refused by the closed object. The arm sits after the envelope arm, and isExpressionEnvelopeShaped keys on a string dialect, so a string still parses as arm 1 (user id / audience selector) and a dialect-bearing object as arm 3 (CEL value). { emailField } was refused by the union before this PR, so no previously accepted value changes meaning: a pure widening, matching the ruling's 「收件人只能来自记录的 email 类型字段,⛔ 不接受自由文本或表达式拼出的地址」 for the new form.
  2. The channels constraint on the new form — right, and not a narrowing. The superRefine of NotifyConfigSchema refuses, at channels, a node whose recipients is the form unless channels is exactly 'email' or ['email']. The guard 'emailField' in cfg.recipients runs on the parsed value, after the union; object-level refinements do not run once a property failed (the file's own measured note), and a parsed envelope never carries emailField (ExpressionSchema is a plain z.object, so a stray key is stripped), so no other recipient form acquires a channels requirement. The input class it refuses was refused before the PR.
  3. The list-entry refusal — message-only, right. The list arm stays string | AssignmentExpressionValueSchema; the diff adds only the sentence notifyRecipientsRefusal returns when the offending entry is { emailField }. No accept-set change.
  4. @objectstack/spec/automation public surface — additive, right. Three new exports: NotifyEmailFieldRecipientSchema (const), NotifyEmailFieldRecipient (z.input) and NotifyEmailFieldRecipientParsed (z.infer), the ADR-0122 pair spelled correctly. api-surface, export-origins, declaration-map, json-schema.manifest and authorable-surface (automation/NotifyEmailFieldRecipient:emailField) agree with the source; the JSON-Schema pin in io-node-config.test.ts now reads four anyOf arms with the fourth declaring only emailField, which is what the schema publishes. check:generated is inside the green Lint & Repo Gates run.
  5. @objectstack/lint public surface — additive, right. New exports validateNotifyEmailFieldRecipients, the three rule-id constants and the NotifyEmailFieldRecipientFinding type; one new REFERENCE_INTEGRITY_RULES member with the default runtimeTypes (['flow']), so it runs on os validate, os lint, os compile and the runtime publish door for a flow write (the test pins the publish door). Every verdict is error. Its gating reaches only stacks that carry the new form, which the spec refused before this PR, so no previously valid stack turns red.
  6. The gate's semantics against the ruling — right. The trigger object is derived through resolveFlowTriggerKind (spec): a record-* triggerType is record_change and the object is start.config.objectName; a config.timeRelative object is time_relative and the object is timeRelative.object (the descriptor lives on the start node's config.timeRelative with key object, time-relative-trigger.zod.ts:31,137); schedule, api and an undefined kind (screen, autolaunched, manual) are refused by name with the reason in the message. Field types are read from objects[].fields through recordsOf, so both the map and the list spelling resolve; an undeclared trigger object or one with no declared fields is skipped, the same reading as the rest of the field-existence family. Nested regions are walked (walkFlowNodes), so a try_catch wrapper does not un-gate the node. The three rule ids match the changeset and the PR body.
  7. Runtime today — the claim holds, read not executed. notify-node.ts#resolveRecipients hands a non-envelope object through resolveValueSlot, which copies a literal unchanged (copyLiteral), then refuses any non-string item with ok: false ("evaluated to a map, not a recipient"). A run reaching the form fails at the node; it is never silently dropped. The recipients describe says so to authors without a tracker number.
  8. Governed surfaces — none. No docs/adr/**, .claude/**, skills/**, AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md or .github/workflows/** path; Governed Surface Queue Guard success. No ADR edit is owed: ADR-0012's recipient-to-address mapping on the email channel is untouched, and the ruling places the form where it says the transport already speaks addresses.
  9. Note, not blocking. The regenerated strictness-ledger counts move io-node-config.zod.ts from 2 to 3 strict sites; the hand-written ledger's file row (2026-07-unknown-key-strictness-ledger.md:746) exists, which is what check:strictness-ledger requires, but its prose names only the two older sites. A one-line amendment can ride a later docs-only change.

② Semver level

.changeset/25610-notify-email-field-recipient.md: @objectstack/spec: minor, @objectstack/lint: minor, with line-initial Clause-②: yes (widening) and Metadata-protocol: added; the PR body carries the same two lines and Ruling-ref: 6377731715. Judged against the diff: a new authorable value form is added, which takes at least minor on spec; lint gains exports and a gating member, minor. Nothing an author could write before is removed, tombstoned or tightened, so the kind is not narrowed, no BREAKING banner and no ADR-0087 disposition is owed, and skip-changeset would be wrong. Check Changeset success. The changeset's sentences were checked against the code: whole-value only, email as the only channel, the three rule ids, "fails at the node" until the messaging half lands. The declarations match the diff.

Landing held · domain:spec seat 2 · 2026-10-24T14:27Z

Contract review PASS 6385379125 on head 433f7f2005 (still the head). All 47 checks are green, and the PR is not governed (704 lines). Under the usual terms the seat would land it now.

It is held for one product question, which the cross-lane note 6384571703 on #25610 asks the seat to weigh before landing. This card was filed for hotsrm's applicant who is not a user. Ruling C on #25572 now makes that applicant a user, whom an in-app notify already reaches. Ruling B on #25496 is not withdrawn, so this PR still implements a standing ruling. But once a release carries { emailField }, removing it is a BREAKING narrowing. The seat has put the question (land, or hold for a re-ruling) to the maintainer in its session. The PR stays draft until the maintainer answers; the record will name the answer.

Hold lifted, landing · domain:spec seat 2 · 2026-10-24T15:53Z

The maintainer's word in the seat's session, verbatim: 「你按照 pm-dispatch 技能审核过的pr你都可以落地」. This PR is reviewed to the skill's terms: ACCEPT 6384499352, and contract review PASS 6385379125 at CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER on head 433f7f2005, which is still the head. All 42 checks are green, it is not governed, and mergeable_state is clean. That word ends the hold of 6385393552, so the seat sends pr_ready + automerge_enable through the relay in this stroke. Ruling B on #25496 stands, and the cross-lane note 6384571703 is answered by this landing.
